Darren Kennedy: Make a statement
Ruffle some feathers with a seriously stylish sleeve.
Wear it on your Sleeve
This season it’s all about statement sleeves. From bell and balloon-shaped, to extra-long and ruffled, attention-grabbing sleeves are stealing the spotlight for spring/summer 2017. Designers have zeroed in on the sleeve and got creative by exaggerating them in every possible way. One of most popular shapes is the bell sleeve. Fitted on the shoulder and flaring out wide toward the wrist, it injects a unique dose of fashion to the most simple of outfits, for a look that’s modern and utterly chic. Ruffle sleeves are loud and fun and were spotted at Valentino, Monse, Sonia Rykiel and Marni. The size and quantity of ruffles vary, so whether you choose ruffles that completely cover the sleeve or ones that start from the elbow, contrast the proportion of your ruffle sleeve shirts or tops with a pair of no-fuss cropped, straight-leg trousers. If you really want to embrace this trend, go for extra-long sleeves that are oversized and stretched out, long enough to swallow your whole hand. The effect is surprisingly elegant.
Jessica Alba is a picture of poise and elegance in this Valentino ensemble, above. I just love everything about this look — the oversized, striped shirt with bell sleeves and delicate black print worn tucked into the sheer, lace red midi skirt. And don’t overlook the studded accessories.
Experience St Patrick’s Day through the lens of another country.
For many, New York City is the holy grail, but much closer to home are the London Patrick’s Day festivities. If you are planning a trip across the water, location is key when it comes to your accommodation. Needless to say, if you can combine a good location with good value, then you’re on to a winner. Motel One at Tower-Hill is a budget design hotel within walking distance of many of the city’s main tourist attractions. With fantastic views of the City of London, 100pc Egyptian cotton bed linen, bathrooms all elegantly fitted with granite and monsoon rain shower, free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel, and prices starting from £98/€115 per night, it’d be hard to go wrong.
