An American sports reporter has been awarded $55m (€50m) in damages after a stalker spied on her through the keyhole of her hotel room and filmed her naked.
Erin Andrews (37) sobbed in a Nashville court as she recounted the 2008 incident.
Michael Barrett (51), a besotted fan of the Fox Sports presenter, entered the hotel without her knowledge and released footage of her at the Nashville Marriott Hotel on to the internet, where it was watched by millions.
"It's always there," she said of the film, which is still being circulated online. "It's always on my back. I can never get rid of it."
Barrett pleaded guilty in 2009 to breaking privacy laws and shooting videos of the former ESPN reporter, and was sentenced to two and a half years in prison.
Miss Andrews, who currently hosts TV show 'Dancing with the Stars', argued that Marriott employees played a role in Barrett's voyeurism by confirming she was at the hotel and telling Barrett her room number.
A jury found Barrett to be 51pc at fault, and required him to pay out more than $28m. The hotel owner was found to be 49pc responsible and ordered to pay more than $26m. (© Daily Telegraph, London)
