LA Galaxy Striker Robbie Keane and his wife Claudine look set to meet US President Barack Obama at the opening ceremony of this summer’s Special Olympics in Los Angeles.
The Irish couple will accompany the Irish team at the opening ceremony in the city on July 25 and expressed their delight at being bestowed such an honour.
President Obama will lead out the US team of athletes at the ceremony.
A source close to the couple revealed that the pair are touched and excited to have been asked to support the Irish team on the evening.
“This is such an honour for Robbie as a sportsperson, and also for Claudine to be flying the flag, literally, for Ireland,” a source told The Sunday Mirror.
“They will be walking in front of the team when they make their way around the running track at the opening event. Barack Obama and his wife Michelle will be doing the same for the American squad, which shows what a special role this is. They can’t wait.”
Meanwhile, Claudine Keane recently posted a photograph of her son Robbie Jr. in Disneyland California as the pair enjoyed a day out together.
“The face of a terrified child on the biggest roller coaster in Disneyland. #poorrobert,” she tweeted.
