Actress Mischa Barton has taken out a restraining order against two ex-boyfriends who she suspects of attempting to sell naked images of her, describing herself as being trapped in a "horrific situation".

Barton, star of the television show 'The OC', accused her former partners Jon Zacharias and Adam Shaw of trying to sell the "revenge porn" footage, with a starting price of $500,000 (€464,100).

"I have been put through an incredibly hard and trying time. My absolute worst fear was realised when I learned that someone I thought I loved and trusted was filming my most intimate and private moments, without my consent, with hidden cameras," she said.

"And then I learned something even worse - that someone is trying to sell these videos and make them public."

Barton (31), who lives in Los Angeles, said she dated Mr Zacharias briefly in October, before beginning a relationship with his friend, Mr Shaw. She provided no evidence of the reported attempts to sell the material, but accuses Mr Zacharias of secretly filming their sex sessions and taking "photos of me naked in the shower".

She claims in the documents - filed in Los Angeles, where the trafficking of "revenge porn" is a crime - she split with Mr Zacharias after she learned he was only interested in her because she was a celebrity.

"The attempt to sell these videos or photos is nothing short of domestic violence," she added.

Lisa Bloom, her lawyer, warned that she and her client would go after anyone who "attempts to traffic" the photos or videos.

Barton reached the heights of fame with 'The OC' from 2003 to 2007, but in recent years has endured personal turmoil. She was arrested for drink driving in 2007 and later had a nervous breakdown. In 2009, her house was repossessed after she failed to pay her mortgage.
