Hollywood actor Chris Noth is in Ireland to research his Irish roots.

The star of Sex and The City, and The Good Wife, arrived in Cavan this morning to further his research into his Irish ancestry.

Noth, whose great great grandfather hailed from Cavan, happily posed for photos during his visit.

Noth was previously in Ireland in 2011 to film the €22m TV mini-series 'Titanic: Blood and Steel' about the building of the 'unsinkable' ship.

He described his love for Ireland at the time, saying he doesn't know "why more film isn't done here".

"I love to travel. I spend a lot of time on a lot of shows in New York so I'm enjoying the opportunity. We started in Serbia with this which was also very interesting and I had two days of beautiful sunshine before this rain so I have seen Dublin in the sun and in the rain. I don't know why more film isn't done here."
