Leo saves the animals with $40m star-studded gala

BIG-HEARTED Leonardo DiCaprio has raised more than $40m (€36m) to help save the environment with a star-studded party in St Tropez.

The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, which protects endangered species, staged the gala for the super-rich in the town on France's south coast.

Two private concerts with Elton John were auctioned off for $3m and a house on DiCaprio's island in Belize fetched $11m. DiCaprio also sold some of his personal items including a Rolex watch.

Guests included Prince Albert II of Monaco, Kate Hudson, Orlando Bloom, Naomi Campbell, Elton John and Heidi Klum.
