Kerry Katona reveals that she self-harmed during bleak periods in her life
Former pop star Kerry Katona has revealed that she self-harmed during low points in her life.
The star, who also admitted that she struggled with suicidal thoughts, has grappled with depression, bipolar disorder and an addiction to drugs in the past.
"I never slashed my wrists because of my kids," she told the Daily Star.
She explained that her children were the reason she pulled through her battle with suicidal thoughts.
Kerry is mother to five children: Molly (14), Lilly-Sue (12), Heidi (8), Max (7) and Dylan-Jorge (1)
She said that it was during her marriage to Mark Croft, her second husband, that she wanted to end it all.
"If I was ever to do that it would mean cutting through my kids' names. And what a selfish mother I would be to do that.
"I was thinking, "How can I get out of this? I'm stuck. The best way to end all this is to end my own life," she said.
Kerry credits a stay at bootcamp for dramatically turning her life around.
Following her stint at the GI Jane camp, in Kent, she declared that the programme had changed her life.
After she completed the programme at the health and wellbeing facility, Kerry decided to split from Croft after four years of marriage.
In 2014 Kerry married her third husband ex-rugby professional George Kay.
George suffered a break down outside the family home in July, and Kerry had reportedly split from him the following month in August.
However the couple recently revealed that they are back together and are stronger than ever, with Kerry stating that her partner's Bell's Palsy and his steroid abuse were the main reasons for the brief breakdown.
"George became a bit paranoid about going out or doing anything because he felt like a monster.
"Even with half his face not working, he is still better looking than all of my exes put together," she said
Kerry was first married to Brian McFadden for four years from 2002 to 2006.
The couple share custody of daughters Molly and Lilly-Sue.
Katona then married former taxi driver Mark Croft and gave birth to Heidi and Max during their four-year marriage.
She then met George in 2012, with the couple walking down the aisle in September 2014 - just a few months after they welcomed their first child, Dylan-Jorge into the world.
