It may have been a royal affair, but that didn’t stop Kate Middleton getting her hands dirty at the premiere of Shaun the Sheep: The Farmer’s Llamas this afternoon.

The Duchess of Cambridge joined Princes William and Harry in London’s Piccadilly today to celebrate the launch of the film.

The royals were joined by children from the charities they support at the workshop and activities launch where they weren’t afraid to get involved in the fun, including a ‘welly wanging’ competition.

Although Kate has many talents to boast of, welly wanging is certainly not one as she lost abysmally to the royal brothers.

Prince Harry might be a talented polo player, but he too failed to trump his older brother Prince William in the country themed game.

The competition involved throwing wellies at a Shawn the Sheep model in an effort to remove his head.

The Duchess arrived at the event in a  €520 Tabitha Webb ‘Space’ dress and joined children as they reenacted scenes from the popular show in front of a green screen.

As Kate demonstrated her acting skills she was interrupted by her husband who heckled her from the crowd in jest.

The children present at the event also gifted the royals with handmade models of the popular sheep.

William said: “That's amazing. How long did the sheep take you to make? Very impressive. They are grazing away very happily.”

The couple’s children Prince George and Princess Charlotte were absent from this afternoon’s event, perhaps not old enough to partake in the welly wanging.

The royal couple, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, have had a busy week and hosted the Chinese president Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan before travelling together to Scotland.
