HOLLYWOOD megastar George Clooney made one woman's year yesterday when he treated her to a five-course lunch at a posh restaurant in Edinburgh.

Heather McGowan won a competition from a deals website for the meal at Tigerlily restaurant with the heart-throb.

"It's absolutely the best date that I've had - no one is going to live up to that," said Ms McGowan, a 32-year-old wedding planner.

She and a small number of other guests were served a Scottish-themed five-course feast, including salt-aged Inverurie beef carpaccio, pan-fried Scrabster cod and specialist cheeses.

Clooney was in Scotland for a series of charity events, starting his trip with a visit to a small sandwich cafe that helps homeless people.

The 54-year-old actor drew a large crowd of onlookers as he arrived in a chauffeur-driven car.

Inside,he handed over a £5 note - as well as the equivalent of about €1,000 - to buy meals for the needy, and sampled a platter of sandwiches and a coffee himself.
