'You don't think, I look really hot in this scene' – Aidan Turner discusses heartthrob status in Vogue magazine shoot
Aidan Turner set millions of hearts fluttering with his smouldering performance as Ross Poldark in the hit BBC series last year.
But the Dublin actor wasn’t expecting the show to be met with such phenomenal success.
In a new interview with British Vogue, the 36-year-old said he found the reaction to the show “preposterous”.
“It's kind of nuts, you know; I got a little bit overwhelmed. We were all taken aback a bit by its success. It's a strange experience to have that happen,” he said.
Of course, the scene in which Turner went scything topless went on to become the television moment of the year, but he insists it was included because it was “true” to the story, not to tantalise female viewers.
“When you're playing the character, you don't think, ‘I look really hot in this scene,’” he said.
“If I was wearing a shirt in the middle of the summer doing that kind of manual work, that for me would have been odd.
“It was quite truthful and real for me, that's the funny thing.”
Turner appears in the magazine’s famed September issue, alongside his co-star Eleanor Tomlinson, who plays his wife in the series.
However, Tomlinson revealed she’s not susceptible to his charms.
“He's beautiful to look at, so it's hard not to fancy him, but fortunately we don't feel like that about each other,” she said.
