Why Majella O'Donnell bared her face for the 'no makeup selfie' trend

She’s a self-confessed ‘no makeup’ fan at the best of times, but Majella O’Donnell still partook in the ‘no makeup selfie’ trend to encourage others to do the same.
The singer and wife of crooner Daniel O’Donnell, who has fought a breast cancer battle and undergone a double mastectomy, said she normally wouldn’t wear ‘a stitch of makeup’ going to the shops.
“I must admit I’m not a big make-up person,” she said.
“Most of the time I don’t wear make-up, I usually wear it when I’m going out. I’d be out in the shops and I wouldn’t have stitch of make-up on.”
But the barefaced snapshot was a priority for Majella to encourage others to do the same.
“To be fair, I’d already put up a no make-up selfie when I did the letter thanking everyone from the hospital, that was a no make-up,” the 53-year-old told Woman’s Way.
“When I saw everyone doing it, I thought I’d like to put up an official one, just to encourage others.”
Majella has been very prominent in her support for the Irish Cancer Society since her diagnosis last year.
She captured the imagination of the public when she appeared on 'The Late Late Show' to have her hair shaved off, raising a massive €600,000 for the Irish Cancer Society.
“I've spoken about depression before... depression, cancer, I've had both of them,” she said.
“It should be a normal thing, I've suffered from depression but I'm not incapacitated by it. I still get on with my life and this is how I cope with it and if it helps somebody else, the entire better,” she continued.
“I feel it's the right thing to do if you've got a [public]voice and say, 'Don't worry about it’.”
