What would Mrs Brown say? Cheryl Cole grabs hold of new BFF Brendan O'Carroll

Talk about an unlikely pair.

Cheryl Cole has clearly hit it off with Irish comedian Brendan O'Carroll.

The two were both guest stars on tonight's Graham Norton Show, the last of the summer, and Cheryl was happy to show some affection to her new pal.

While O'Carroll promotes his new film Mrs Brown's D'Movie and Cole was promoting her new album.

Cole also admitted that things are 'frosty' between her and Irish judge Louis Walsh, the longest serving judge on the panel.

“It’s a little bit frosty,” she said when asked about him.

And laughed that their friendship was 'never on' when grilled about whether or not it was off.

Earlier in the day, the Fight for This Love singer, who just returned to the X Factor panel as a judge, has been soaking up her return to the spotlight.

Showing off her new hairstyle with a sleek straight 'do, Cheryl opted for an eye-catching, fitted red jumpsuit for the second day of auditions at Emirates Stadium in London earlier today.

Media mogul Simon Cowell is also returning to the judging panel on the ITV show this year, as part of a shake up to tackle flagging ratings.

He told the Sunday People: "Of course the pressure is going to be on Cheryl this year, coming back after a break. All eyes are going to be on her, but she is ready for it. She's going to be great."

He added: "We're both looking forward to sitting together on the panel again."

Cheryl was booted off American X Factor after a week amid reports she was a flop with US audiences, who struggled to understand her Geordie accent.

She then snubbed Simon's offer to return to the UK panel, and went on to sue the X Factor's American producers in a multimillion-dollar lawsuit for her unpaid two-year salary, plus expenses.

She and Simon will be joined by Mel B and Louis Walsh on the show this year.

2014 is shaping up to be her ultimate comeback as she's said to have started a new relationship with French restaurateur Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini, as well as making her much anticipated return to the X Factor.

"She's really happy," a source said. "They're an item and Cheryl is ready to find love again.

"After a difficult few years, she wants to get back out there and start having some fun. Things are going brilliantly in her professional life."
