There are few situations worse then being trapped in an lift so you can imagine the horror Selena Gomez felt when she found herself in that situation recently.

The 23-year-old was in the French capital for Paris Fashion Week but the excitement came crashing down when she and her crew got trapped in a lift at an undisclosed venue.

The singer took to Twitter on Tuesday to post a 19-second video of her shortlived nightmare.

"That time we got stuck in an elevator in Paris... " she captioned the brief footage.

"If we keep talking, the oxygen..." Gomez starts to say in the video before a male next to the pop star yells to someone on the other side of the elevator entrance to pry open the metal doors.

The man finally manages to release the doors, much to the relief of Gomez and her pals, who cheered as they prepared to escape.

The Revival singer's rumoured ex, Niall Horan, also suffered a similar situation.

The Mullingar man - who is claustrophobic - got trapped in a lift with young fans in Milan back in 2013.

He tweeted at the time: "Eight of us got stuck in a tiny lift. Claustrophobia is a terrible thing, and people telling you to calm down is worse. I was freaking out. My heart is still thumping."

He was on his way to the lobby of his hotel with the elevator stopped and while it was said to be just for "five minutes", the singer's fear meant it became his "worst nightmare".
