TV stylist Courtney Smith fights off mugger in Dublin with 'proper dig'
TV stylist Courtney Smith might not be known for her boxing prowess, but she managed to tackle a would-be mugger with a swift "right hook" in Dublin city centre.
The fashionable businesswoman was walking along Ormond Quay at lunchtime on Tuesday when someone tried to steal her designer handbag - which contained her passport and laptop.
"It happened in broad daylight as I was walking down the quays," she said. "I felt a little tug on my bag and then it felt as if someone was rummaging in my handbag and I saw this guy out of the corner of my eye trying to take something out of my bag.
"Then he went to take the bag off me and I basically boxed him in the shoulder and shouted something like, 'what are you doing?'
"That was my initial reaction. It probably wasn't the wisest thing in the world to do as I saw afterwards there was another guy with him.
"But I was just acting on pure adrenaline. I managed to give him a proper dig but he acted like nothing happened.
"He just sauntered off with the other guy without saying a word."
The petite fashion expert said she was left "shocked" after the incident but thanked her lucky stars that the man - whom she described as being in his late 20s - didn't manage to steal her handbag.
Courtney admits that she carries her "whole life" in her Longchamp bag, including her passport, laptop, phone and notebook.
She took to social media in the aftermath to Tweet her anger at what happened: "To the a**hole who tried to mug me on the quays... I hope my right hook left a mark!"
She's now putting the incident behind her to fly off to the UK today for London Fashion Week ahead of going to LA to style a shoot for a top Irish label.
