Surprise! Serena Williams stuns fans with baby bump and reveals she's 20 weeks pregnant
Tennis legend Serena Williams has surprised fans by revealing she's 20 weeks pregnant.
The 35-year-old made the announcement on Wednesday when she shared a photo of her baby bump on Snapchat.
Dressed in a yellow swimsuit, Serena revealed she was 20 weeks pregnant.
She then swiftly deleted her Snapchat post, with no official comment yet from her management.
Serena will return to world number one on Monday despite not playing since the Australian Open, when she overtook Steffi Graf to claim the outright Open era record for slam singles titles.
She pulled out of the recent tournaments in Indian Wells and Miami citing a knee injury but is due to return at the Madrid Open next month.
The athlete has made no secret of her desire to have a family.
Speaking to Glamour magazine last summer, she said: "I definitely want to have kids one day. That's always something I've wanted as long as I could remember. And the older I get, the more I'm like, 'I'm too young!'.
"Hopefully I'll be able to mature one of these days, get serious, and at least have them pretty fast."
The champion tennis player is engaged to Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian.
The internet mogul proposed to Serena after 15 months of dating, presenting her with a ring worth an estimated $2 million.
Notably private, the pair have managed to keep their relationship low-key, apart from the occasional photo on social media.
An engagement message, posted through a poem on Reddit, was the only major time the couple went public with their relationship.
"I came home. A little late. Someone had a bag packed for me. And a carriage waited. Destination: Rome," the poem read.
"To escort me to my very own 'charming.' Back to where our stars first collided. And now it was full circle. At the same table we first met by chance."
"But by choice. Down on knee. He said 4 words. And I said yes."
Her other half shared the news on his own Facebook page, writing "she said yes".
Serena and Alexis reportedly met at a lunch.
The tennis champion holds the record for the most Grand Slam titles of any player in the Open Era, clinching her 23rd at January’s Australian Open.
