Clifton said walking down the aisle was more nerve-wracking than appearing in front of millions of viewers on the BBC ballroom show.

He told Hello! magazine: "Dancing in front of millions of people is way easier than that" and described his bride as "absolutely stunning".

He said: " I've never seen anything more beautiful in my life".

The pair, who got married in central London, were joined on the big day by some of the show's professional dancers and celebrity contestants including Susanna Reid and Frankie Bridge - both of whom Clifton partnered.

His bride, who wore a designer wedding gown by Inbal Dror, said she was the relaxed one of the pair.

She said: " When I was getting ready, I said to my make-up artist, 'Is it weird that I'm so calm?' She said the best thing ever, 'You're so calm because you've made the right choice'. And it made me think, 'I have nothing to worry about because I'm going to marry the person I've been in love with since the day we met'."

Karen said she had decided to take his surname, telling the magazine: " I've been practising my signature and saying my new name out loud."

Fellow dancer Brendan Cole said it was "a beautiful ceremony", while Reid said: " It's an absolute joy to be here on their big day. They are beautiful people, inside and out."
