The television writer died on March 1 aged 79 after a short illness.

Warren's life was being remembered in a funeral service at Manchester Cathedral which was open to the public.

Among the pallbearers were actors Jack P Shepherd (David Platt), Alan Halsall (Tyrone Dobbs), Mikey North (Gary Windass) and Ryan Thomas (Jason Grimshaw).

Roache, who has played Ken Barlow since the show made its debut in 1960, arrived with Knox.

The 83-year-old wore a dark navy suit and sunglasses, while 82-year-old Knox, best known for her role as Rita Tanner, was dressed in black and grey.

Former Corrie star Goodyear, 73, a friend of Warren for 50 years, teamed her black trouser suit with a blue floral-patterned scarf and a hat with blue flowers.

Goodyear, famous for playing barmaid Bet Lynch in the popular ITV soap, paid a heartfelt tribute to Warren: "We cried together and we laughed together," she said.

Sue Nicholls (Audrey Roberts) arrived with husband Mark Eden, who enjoyed soap infamy as evil Alan Bradley.

Actresses Alison King (Carla Connor), Kym Marsh (Michelle McDonald), Brooke Vincent (Sophie Webster), Sally Dynevor (Sally Metcalfe) and Lisa George (Beth Tinker) also attended the service.

Former stars in the congregation included Ken Morley, who played Reg Holdsworth, and Christopher Quinten, who is still best known for his role as mechanic Brian Tilsley.

Michael Le Vell - garage owner Kevin Webster - arrived with his partner, Louise Gibbons.

Other mourners from the current cast included comedian Les Dennis (Michael Rodwell) Antony Cotton (Sean Tully), Paula Lane (Kylie Platt), Sue Cleaver (Eileen Grimshaw), Jane Danson (Leanne Battersby), Samia Ghadie (Maria Connor), Tina O'Brien (Sarah-Louise Platt) and Bruno Langley (Todd Grimshaw).
