Soap swap as Emmerdale, Corrie and Hollyoaks producers make a move
It is musical chairs in the soap world, with producers on the move at Emmerdale, Coronation Street and Hollyoaks.
Emmerdale producer Kate Oates has been appointed the new producer of Coronation Street, while Iain MacLeod is moving on from his series producer role at Hollyoaks to replace her at Emmerdale.
Meanwhile, Coronation Street's current producer, Stuart Blackburn, is set to leave the role to work on other drama projects within ITV.
MacLeod will become the new Emmerdale producer at the end of this year, while Oates will join Coronation Street in the new year.
She has previously jumped between the two ITV soaps, having worked as an assistant producer on Coronation Street before she joined Emmerdale in January 2013 in the producer job.
"I'm delighted to accept the role as Coronation Street's new producer," she said. "It's really exciting to be moving from one amazing soap to another and I feel very blessed.
"Emmerdale is an exceptional programme and I've thoroughly enjoyed working with the cast, writers and crew. They are some of the absolute best in the business and it's been a privilege to work with such dedicated, hard-working and creative people, and make some life-long friends in the process. But as much as Emmerdale has meant the world to me, Corrie also has a special place in my heart."
She has recently produced Emmerdale's helicopter disaster episodes, which killed Ruby Haswell ( Alicya Eyo) and Val Pollard (Charlie Hardwick).
Blackburn will remain with ITV and ITV Studios. He will continue to produce the soap until he leaves in the new year, and will remain at the helm for the live episode on Wednesday September 23, which celebrates ITV's 60th birthday.
"I've loved every minute of producing Coronation Street," Blackburn said. "What a rollercoaster ride the last three years has been. We've met every challenge along the way and I can't praise the cast, crew and writers highly enough for rising to the occasion with each storyline.
"For the next few months my focus will remain entirely on all things Corrie, as we have massive stories coming up taking us into the spring and summer of 2016. I wish my friend Kate well in her role as she takes on one of the best jobs in television."
MacLeod moves to Emmerdale from his position as series producer at Hollyoaks. He has previously worked as a researcher and story editor on Coronation Street, before he moved to the Channel 4 soap in 2013.
