The pair's bitter divorce case reached a surprise conclusion yesterday - with Amber (30) dismissing her petition for a domestic violence restraining order against Depp (53).

The actress had accused the Pirates of the Caribbean star of hitting her during a fight in their Los Angeles home in May, which Depp denied.

A hearing on the divorce case had been scheduled to begin today.

According to TMZ, legal documents filed by the estranged couple yesterday saw Amber withdraw her request for a restraining order.

The pair's divorce, which was tied to the domestic violence case, has also been resolved.

Depp was believed to have paid his former wife of 14 months some €6.2m - this includes her lawyers' fees.

However, this is less than the €7m Amber was reportedly looking for.

Lawyers for both actors prepared a statement for the couple, which was released last night.

"Our relationship was intensely passionate and at times volatile, but always bound by love," the statement read.

"There will be no further public statements about this matter."

News of a settlement came a day after a story emerged that claimed Depp had accidentally ripped off his fingertip during a drunken row with the actress in a villa in Australia.

The incident took place in March 2015 - just several weeks after the pair were married.

Court papers claimed Depp was drunk and high on ecstasy during the incident, and smashed bottles and windows and also slammed a plastic phone against the wall unit.

Heard claimed a piece of one of the items cut off a portion of the middle finger on Depp's right hand.

Gruesome photos of the injury emerged this week.

The court papers also claimed that Depp, who was in Australia at the time, did not have the finger treated for 24 hours and doctors had to fashion a new tip using skin from his hand.

In court papers filed in Los Angeles, the actress said Depp had a "history of drug and alcohol abuse" and being "verbally and physically abusive".
