Shane Lowry and wife Wendy quietly welcome first child before Augusta
Irish golfer Shane Lowry and his wife Wendy Horner are celebrating the arrival of their first child.
Wendy, a nurse, gave birth to little Iris in late March and much like her pregnancy, kept the delivery a secret.
It was only in November that Shane, from Offaly, revealed he and his wife of one year were expecting and said he would be taking a few weeks off from work to help with the new arrival before returning to the green at Augusta, where he is now in contention going into the weekend.
"I don't know if many people even know this yet, but I might as well tell you - Wendy is expecting a baby so we're having our first kid at the end of February," he said.
"That'll be nice. I'm going to play a few weeks in a row and then take some time off when we're having the baby, then I'll be back for Augusta."
The couple exchanged vows in a "very chilled" ceremony in New York City in April in front of just a handful of family and friends in 2015.
He popped the question on a beach in Dubai in December 2014 but insisted they were in no hurry to get hitched.
"I am absolutely delighted," Lowry said at the time. "Wendy is a great girl and we are both looking to our future together."
