Seal: 'Annual marriage vow renewals to Heidi Klum became a circus and I wasn't terribly fond of it'
Singer Seal hated how much of a "circus" his annual marriage vow renewal ceremony to Heidi Klum became, but went along with it for her.
The Kiss from a Rose performer was married to the German supermodel for six years before they announced their separation in January 2012. During their union they renewed their vows on their wedding anniversary every year, with ceremonies taking place in Mexico and Florida and featuring a fancy dress theme. However, the 52 year old admits the tradition had its downsides, mostly in the shape of the intense media attention it generated.
"That was my ex-wife’s idea, to be honest,” he told SiriusXM radio show Andy Cohen Live. “It kind of turned into a little bit of a circus, which I wasn’t terribly fond of because, by default, I’m quite a private person. (The publicity was) the thing I disliked most about it.”
The former couple have three children together and in 2009 Seal also adopted Heidi's daughter Leni, from her relationship with Formula One star Flavio Briatore. Seal and Heidi have remained amicable since their divorce was finalised in October 2014 and the singer took the opportunity to reflect on their union during his chat with Andy.
"You’re married and you become a team player,” he said. “You understand that each of you have different lives and you do whatever you can to support your partner’s life. I don’t know how necessary (renewing our vows) was, but it was cool.”
Seal has now moved on to a new relationship with model Erica Packer and last week he blasted reports that the beauty was expecting his child.
"Ah, you've read the rumours!" he grinned coyly to Details magazine when quizzed on becoming a dad for the fourth time. "I'm going to be annoying and say if you read it in a magazine... The fact that people are even remotely interested in if I'm becoming a father again is ridiculous."
