Rory McIlroy and new fiancee Erica Stoll to spend Christmas in Ireland
Sports star Rory McIlroy (26) will celebrate Christmas in his native Ireland with his new fiancee, Erica Stoll (29).
The world No 3 golfer is expected to jet home from his adopted home of America to enjoy some well-earned time off in Co Down with his beautiful other-half.
Speaking about his family's reaction to the good news, McIlroy said they were over the moon. "We are excited, our parents are excited so it is a really happy time," he said.
Earlier this month saw the Holywood native pop the question to the PGA employee, who he has been dating for just a year. She was pictured a week later sporting a giant sparkler worth an estimated €600,000.
Last year Rory and Erica enjoyed Christmas in Ireland, spending New Year's at the exclusive Ashford Castle as they got to know each other better.
This year, the smitten couple are expected to follow suit, according to a close source.
"Despite his lifestyle, Rory's a real home bird and is very close to his parents Rosie and Gerry and always makes sure to get a few days off at Christmas to see them in Ireland," she said.
In Dublin this week for a visit to Facebook headquarters, he described Erica as a "calming presence" in his action-packed life and praised her low-key approach to everything.
