Reality TV star Rob Kardashian was reportedly diagnosed with a serious complication of diabetes when he was hospitalised on Sunday.
The 28-year-old star felt unwell over the weekend and eventually went to a medical centre in Los Angeles for tests. He is understood to have been diagnosed with diabetes, with sources telling TMZ his condition was much more serious than initially thought.
According to an insider Rob had diabetic ketoacidosis, which is a complication of the disease. It is caused when a severe lack of insulin means the body can't use glucose for energy, so instead it starts to break down tissue from other areas. This causes poisonous chemicals called ketones to be created, which can make the body acidic. If not treated by doctors, the condition can lead to coma.
Rob apparently had no idea he was suffering from type 2 diabetes before he was hospitalised. He has reportedly been told that his outlook is very good, as long as he starts to lead a "healthy lifestyle" and monitors what he is eating better. The star is at home and recovering at the moment.
Rob has been largely out of the limelight over the last few years, said in part to be because he is unhappy with his appearance after putting on a lot of weight. His family, including sisters Kim, Kourtney and Khloé Kardashian and mother Kris Jenner, have been seen speaking about his issues on their family's reality TV show Keeping Up with the Kardashians. At the moment Rob lives with Khloé, who has admitted she finds his lack of drive following his estimated 100lbs. weight gain hard to handle.
"I've been working on my patience," she previously told People magazine. "I've been really trying. But I have my moments and I do snap. I've offered to get a chef; I'm like, 'What's your excuse?' But it's not just that. I can't win life for Rob. I have to wait until (he's) ready to do it for himself."
This isn't the only issue the Kardashian clan are facing at the moment. Youngest sibling Kylie Jenner, 18, has reportedly been warned not to share so much of her life on social media by police. Kylie is a prolific user of sites like Instagram and Twitter, but the fear is she is making it too easy for people to track her down.
This comes after an obsessed fan attempted to get into her home and was placed under a psychiatric hold.
