Jason Wahler originally starred in Laguna Beach with Lauren Conrad and graduated to follow-on scripted reality show The Hills as her boyfriend.

He opened up to Entertainment Tonight about his life and the difficulties he encountered following the show.

Throughout early episodes of the series Jason was seen struggling to control his drinking and in 2009 he hit rock bottom.

Speaking to ET he said, "[The Hills] ignited my addiction and things started to domino effect and before I knew it it got out of control.  I couldn't handle it."

Jason was arrested several times for drink driving and other offences related to his alcohol problem. He attended rehab several times but to no avail.

"My addiction drove me to suicide, not contemplation, actually attempting suicide," he said.
"Somebody found me. That's why I'm still here today.  I'm very grateful for that."

Jason has been sober since 2010 and even opened a sober living residence focusing on aftercare called Widespread Recovery in California.  He married Ashley Stack in 2013.
