'Pirelli are jumping on the bandwagon with latest calendar pics' - Kathryn Thomas
TV presenter Katrhyn Thomas believes that the latest Pirelli Calendar images are just a flash in the pan and won't signal a cultural shift.
"I admire the 'shero' trend in all aspects of the media, championing strong females for what they do and what they have achieved rather than what they look like," said Kathryn.
"But for Pirelli, which has in recent years been showcasing the female form using creative, fierce themes and beautiful photography, rather than sleazy objectification, I kind of feel they are just jumping on the latest bandwagon.
"I wonder is there any real need?"
The calendar features an impressive line-up of successful females including comedian Amy Schumer, tennis ace Serena Williams, 77-year-old philanthropist Agnes Gund and musician Patti Smith, among others.
According to Pirelli, it was the "first time the attraction of subjects is in their resumes and not their measurements".
"Can they go back to the iconic beauty shots they became famous for? I would say not," said Kathryn when speaking to the Irish Star.
"If Pirelli has decided to take a long-term stance, fasntastic.
"But we will have to wait until next year to see if the omission of flesh was just a flash in the pan."
