Pippa Middleton is set to take the spotlight from her big sister.

The columnist is said to be close to getting engaged to her boyfriend of two years, stockbroker Nico Jackson.

Pippa, who became an international celebrity after her role as bridesmaid for Kate Middleton's wedding to Prince William in 2011, is reportedly keen to walk up the aisle herself.

“She’s on the brink of getting engaged,” a source told Life & Style.

“She’s dropped hints to Nico, but ultimately she’s letting him pick the ring.”

And while they haven't even made their engagement official, royal insiders predict they'll wed sooner rather than later.

“The engagement will probably last only six to nine months," they added.

Pippa recently celebrated the first birthday of  her nephew Prince George at Kensington Palace with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and several members of the royal family.

However, her other half did not attend.

It was recently reported that Pippa was told to be more discreet when it comes to discussing the royal family after she gave her first television interview with The Today Show in the US.

“They are furious with Pippa,” one aristocratic source told Radar Online. “They wish that she would shut-up. It is obvious that she wants to define her identify and step out of her sisters shadow, however she needs to know her place.”

There’s debate as to whether Palace officials knew about the sit down chat with host Matt Lauer beforehand or not. While the source says the family are “livid” that Pippa gave the interview behind their backs, other sources state that Clarence House, the home of Kate and husband Prince William, signed off on the interview, which is slightly different from Buckingham Palace, who speak on behalf of the Queen.
