Actress Billie Piper has revealed she took inspiration for her Irish prostitute role in Penny Dreadful from Girls Aloud star Nadine Coyle's accent.

Piper, 32, plays Brona Croft, a prostitute who has died and Victor Frankenstein is attempting to bring back to life, in the Sky Atlantic Victorian drama.

The former singer is a guest on Alan Carr: Chatty Man tonight, and the host asks about her accent in the TV series, saying: " Can I just say you've come back posh because before you were a bit like Nadine Coyle?"

She replies: "I know. I actually watched a lot of YouTube clips of her. Yeah I did. It wasn't supposed to be Derry, it was Belfast, and I just sort of got quite addicted to her and her funky accent.

"It's great. Now she has gone to America it's bold. It's bold now, isn't it?"

Piper, who also played a prostitute in Belle De Jour, adds that she does not expect to keep being typecast in the role.

She says: "It's just one of those unhappy coincidences, you know. But I think those days are numbered.

"I don't know how that keeps happening. I think I'm slightly drawn to those kinds of women, women who are slightly unconventional. They are fun, but I think I have to sort of cool down one day."

Asked if she would play a prostitute again, she answers: "No, it's done guys. It's a Chatty Man exclusive."

Because We Want To singer Piper also confirms there is no chance of her reviving her music career: "No, I think my days are gone. They're done."

Alan Carr: Chatty Man airs tonight on Channel 4 at 10pm, with other guests including Phillip Schofield, Romesh Ranganathan and Charli XCX.
