'Our relationship progresses alongside the relationship between our characters' - Aidan Turner on Poldark co-star Eleanor Tomlinson
Aidan Turner has revealed that he and his Poldark co-star Eleanor Tomlinson both feel that their on-screen relationship feels "very real".
Irish actor Turner (33) plays the title character in the BBC period drama, which kicks off for season three tonight (Sunday) while English actress Tomlinson (25) plays his on-screen wife Demelza.
He said their real-life relationship has evolved alongside their on-screen relationship.
"The relationship between Ross and Demelza has always felt very real for Eleanor and I, that's why it is so enjoyable to play," he told the BBC.
"We can really track the progress of their relationship and when we go to shoot a scene and we do our research on what has come before, it is easy to join the dots and to see where they are at and why."
He added, "Eleanor and myself have worked together for so long now that we are very familiar with each other and our relationship progresses alongside the relationship between our characters.
"When we are doing these scenes you’re just looking into that person’s eyes and you are relating to them on that platform and in that context and it feels like any relationship would feel, it is very real for us."
This week has seen separate reports emerge of both Aidan Turner and Eleanor Tomlinson recently splitting with their real-life partners, Nettie Wakefield and Ben Atkinson (23).
Turner reportedly spit with Nettie after eight months of dating while Ben and Eleanor had dated for two years.
Neither star has commented on the reports.
