One-off props from Twilight films thrill fans at auction

Original props, costumes and set decoration pieces used in the making of the Twilight Saga film franchise sold for over the asking prices.

An engagement ring worn by Kristen Stewart's Twilight character Bella Swan has fetched more than £13,000 after hundreds of items from the vampire movie franchise went under the hammer.

The two-day sale included more than 800 props and costumes featured in the hit films starring Stewart, Robert Pattinson (Edward Cullen) and Taylor Lautner (Jacob Black).

The ring had been valued at £4,000 (5,000 dollars) but made £ 13,619 ( 16,800 dollars).

Other highlights of the sale, by Prop Store in Los Angeles, included Bella and Edward Cullen's chess set which sold for £10,700 ( 13,200 dollars ).

Bella's meadow costume was snapped up for £6,820 (8,400 dollars) and Edward's journal for £6,330 (7,800 dollars).

The auction made a total of £615,412 ( 757,890 US dollars) with 874 items for sale.

The Twilight films, based on the novels by Stephenie Meyer, became a global phenomenon following the release of the first instalment in 2008. A further four movies followed; New Moon, Eclipse, Breaking Dawn - Part 1 and Breaking Dawn - Part 2.

The series grossed more than three billion dollars (£2.43 billion) at the global box office and is considered one of the most popular film franchises of all time.

Brandon Alinger, of Prop Store, had said: "As far as I'm aware no authentic Twilight material has ever been sold in the past.

"Really, it's all been in storage since the studio stopped production when the last film came out about four years ago."
