First there were wedding bells and now there could be the pitter patter of more tiny feet on the horizon for Mairead Ronan

The Today FM star (35) - who is better known by her maiden name Farrell - wed her businessman husband Louis Ronan in an intimate ceremony in June and now she's thinking about expanding her brood.

The broadcaster, who is already mum to young son Dara (8), told The Herald she's hoping to have more children - though not quite as many as Prime Time host and mother-of-eight Miriam O'Callaghan.

"Of course I would like to have more kids," she said.

"Maybe not as many as Miriam but I would like more children."

Although the Dublin brunette has babies on her mind, she's happy to enjoy wedded bliss for a while before trying for another child.

"If that doesn't happen, I'm very happy with my one because Dara is perfect," she said.

"One for now, but yes hopefully more in the future."

Mairead who produces Ian Dempsey's weekday radio show is set to reprise her role as presenter of Ireland's Fittest Family later this month and with her busy work schedule she said she finds it impossible to be the "perfect parent".

"There are times when I struggle, I think every parent does. You get times when it's really, really difficult to try to be there when everything is going on," she said.

"To be this kind of perfect parent, you need to be there all the time but it's just not possible in this day and age."

Speaking at the launch of Glo-Health's September Savings Campaign, which offers customers €30 back on sports club fees, Mairead admitted that now is a costly time of the year.

"Dara is involved in an awful lot of sports clubs - there's a new one coming in every week - and they all seem to kick off in September when they're going back to school. It's pretty tough with the amount of bills," she explained.

The Finglas native may be better known for her TV roles but she recently said there's more stability working in radio - which she considers her "office job".

"I have TV things going, which are fun, but I'll always be on radio more. There are not enough TV gigs in this country. For example with Ireland's Fittest Family, it runs for eight weeks in the summer. But eight Sundays in a year isn't going to pay the mortgage."

"With radio, I go into the office every day like any other office job," she said.
