However, despite being showered with air kisses from swooning fans, the Liverpudlian singer admits he's still single after splitting from ex-girlfriend, fellow country star, Lisa McHugh at the end of 2015.

"I am single, most definitely single, but always looking," the 25-year-old revealed to RSVP magazine.

The Donegal-based star said his hectic career makes it difficult to find love as the demands of his touring schedule see him spend a lot of time on the road.

However, Carter admitted that he wouldn't rule out dating a fan if the right person came along.

"The right person is the right person, no matter what they are or how you meet them. That said, people may see you on stage and think they have an idea of who you are, but that's all a perception. If they really knew me, they might think differently.

"You don't know what people are actually after: me, or the idea of me?" he said.

Since becoming an international star, Carter's privacy has suffered as he finds his love life the subject of constant speculation.

"There's a girl who is a really good friend of mine and we stayed in Lough Erne Resort in Northern Ireland. She stayed in my room and literally nothing happened because we are great friends.

"The next morning it was all over the town that we were together, or in a relationship, but we are just close pals.

"We are part of a group of friends and she just happened to stay in the room with me. My other mate was in a different room but because it was just the two of us, everyone was talking," he said to the magazine.

He admitted that fame would make a relationship difficult for the other person.

"It'd be very tough on the girl - also they would get judged straight away, by a lot of people, which is not nice."

When it comes to what he looks for in a girl, Carter revealed some down-to-earth qualities.

"They would have to have a good personality, be up for the craic and be willing to travel."
