Three illustrations of Muhammad Ali commissioned for a magazine cover are set to go under the hammer in New York.

Illustrator Bernie Fuchs was commissioned by TV Guide to create a series of portraits of the boxer for a 1975 issue and Ali chose one that showed him with his gloves raised above his head.

The three remaining alternatives, all sketched in black and white, will be part of the Illustration Art sale at Swann Auction Galleries in New York on September 29 and the set is expected to fetch between 3,000 and 4,000 US dollars (£2,260 to £3,020).

Copies of the original TV Guide featuring Ali on the cover and the article Muhammad Ali Defends His Titles On Home TV This Week are now traded as collectibles.

Ali died on June 3 this year at the age of 74.
