VIEWERS may be watching a shorter, pre-recorded version of Miriam O'Callaghan's Saturday night TV show this summer, as she wants to change the format in order to spend more time with her family.

The 53-year-old mother of eight said that following her husband Steve Carson's move to the BBC in Northern Ireland, the couple are keen to see each other as much as possible.

Mr Carson (45) took up his new post as head of productions at BBC Northern Ireland on December 2, leaving the role of chief editorial adviser and director of factual group at RTE.

'Saturday Night With Miriam' started in 2005 and goes out live every weekend, from late June to early August.

"I am more than happy to do a summer show, but given the changes in my own life with Steve, I may try to alter it a little bit," the 'Prime Time' anchor told the Irish Independent.

"In recent times I've had to work every week of the summer bar two and that's a lot. If I could alter it a little bit, so I wasn't working all summer, that would be great. I'll probably do something, but hopefully not something that means I have to work 24/7, 365 days a year."

O'Callaghan said that having managed a long-distance relationship before, she and Carson were now balancing the recent change well.

"We did it before, we did it in the late '90s when he was working for the BBC, so it's fine."

She handed over hosting duties of the annual 'New Year's Eve Live' coverage to Daithi O Se and Sinead Kennedy.

"I wouldn't go back. I hadn't been with my children on New Year's Eve for a very long time," she said.
