Michael Phelps celebrates marks 10 years with wife Nicole with date night at the ESPYs
It's been a week of celebrations for Michael Phelps and Nicole Johnson.
The Olympic swimmer and model turned marketing executive are celebrating both her 32nd birthday and the day they met 10 years ago at the ESPYs (the Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly Awards).
It's fitting the couple attending the red carpet event on Wednesday night, and the iconic Olympic swimmer paid fitting tribute to his wife while on stage.
"Today is my wife’s birthday and we met here 10 years ago and it’s the most amazing thing in the world. Thank you," he said.
"For me being able to come back, come out of retirement ... It's pretty wild to look back," he said. "I wanna congratulate all of the other athletes."
The couple, who secretly wed last year before the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, have one-year-old son Boomer together.
Earlier this week, Phelps wished his wife a happy birthday on Instagram, saying: "Happy bday to my best friend and love of my life!!! Two days ago we celebrated our 10 year anniversary of meeting at the #espys !! #yourethebest #happybday #happiness."
Last night's awards also saw fellow Olympian Simone Biles take home an award, while skier Lindsey Vonn, WWE stars Nikki Bella and John Cena and The Avengers stars Elizabeth Olsen and Jeremy Renner also made an appearance.
