Michael Fassbender has opened up about the instant chemistry he felt with girlfriend Alicia Vikander.

The Kerryman is happily loved up with the Swedish beauty but the two rarely discuss their relationship.

However, they found it hard to dodge questions about their private lives during a promotional tour for their new movie The Light Between Oceans in which they play a married couple.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Fassbender said their chemistry was there "from the beginning" when they first met "properly" on the set of the movie in 2014.

While Vikander explained the two initially met at Toronto Film Festival, "just on the dancefloor".

The Irish actor said: "I thought [I was a good dancer] until she started dancing and then I felt like I had two left feet."

He praised his co-star and girlfriend, saying "she's a very fierce performer and very brave, testing the boundaries and how far you can go. She's got all of those things in spades."
