Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander finally make red carpet debut together...two years later
They're one of Hollywood's most private couples, but Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander have to put work first sometimes.
The couple, who first met on the set of The Light Between Oceans in 2014, have avoided walking the red carpet together during their two year romance, even at the Oscars and BAFTAs, but their made an exception to their own rule on Thursday night.
The Irish actor (39) and Swedish star (28) looked blissfully happy as they made two public appearances at the Venice Film Festival before taking to the red carpet for the world premiere at the Sala Grande.
At the photocall earlier in the day, both showed off her style credentials with Alicia, who won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar earlier this year, wore a semi-sheer tie dyed patterned Prabal Gurung dress with Delfina Delettrez statement earrings, while Michael opted for a crisp white shirt, blazer and jeans by Tom Ford.
But they upped the glamour as expected at the premiere as Alicia returned to her red carpet to her red carpet roots in Louis Vuitton and Fassbender kept it simple in a classic navy blue suit.
The film has received rave reviews and if early buzz is anything to go by, both could be in the running for a second consecutive Oscar nod.

Michael, who hails from Co Kerry, praised his other half's acting ability, saying: "She’s such a fierce performer. She’s so brave. She’s not afraid to bring ugly personality traits to the forefront in characters. So I was really impressed by her immediately."
Earlier this week, the pair gave a joint interview to Entertainment Weekly discussing the movie and clearly explained their decision not to play into tabloid culture with their relationship.
"I'm not going to talk about my private life with a total stranger, unless I feel like I need to. Why would I? I don't," Fassbender said.
As for falling in love off-screen, the actors said it was a natural process and their attraction to one another was immediate.
"It wasn’t the first time in a movie either of us had played somebody who is falling in love. There is an element of separation there. If I’m playing a murderer, I don’t go out and start murdering people," he added.
Vikander echoed his statements, saying: "I think we’ve made a clear statement that we keep certain things just between us. It was very easy to unite, but that’s quite personal."
