Mariah Carey and James Packer's split turns ugly as he 'wanted his normal life back' while she accuses him of 'undesirable behaviour'
Mariah Carey and James Packer's split is already getting messy.
It was reported on Thursday the pair had called off their engagement after eight months with the blame being put on her "extravagant spending", but more details of the catalyst behind the break-up have emerged and both sides are keen to get their points across.
Reports have emerged of a fight in Greece, where the couple holidayed last month, with sources close to Packer saying she was "too public" and Mariah insiders claiming he was not "present for Mariah or her family."
Carey has twins Morocco and Monroe (five) with ex-husband Nick Cannon, whom she split with in 2014.
A representative for the singer told People: "James has not been in a mentally healthy place. His behavior was not a desirable situation for Mariah (46) so she unfortunately had to leave him."
Packer sources hit back accusing her of "twisting things that don’t sound good to her. They split because she has issues. James is definitely an oddball, but a brilliant, great guy. To put her issues on James is ridiculous."
Similarly, a source echoed to Us Weekly the pair "definitely won't" be reconciling as the mud-slinging continues and he prefers to live a more private life.
"She always has her whole entourage and he couldn’t take that," they said. "Being in such a public relationship was fun for James at first, but then it got to be too much and he wanted his normal life back.”
A representative for Packer (48), who previously dated supermodel Miranda Kerr, told Us Weekly it was "simply not true" that she dumped him.
The Honey hitmaker's spokesperson confirmed to Entertainment Tonight that the fight in Greece was behind the split, adding that the pair hadn't spoken in weeks, but insisted it "was not because of any cheating allegations or excessive spending by Mariah."
The five time Grammy winner has an estimated fortune of $500m, but her former fiancé boasts a casino empire worth $3.4bn and reports emerged that the split was fuelled by her spending.
Meanwhile, the New York Post has outlined the original diva's lavish spending including $45,000 on spa treatments for her dogs Cha Cha and Jill E. Beans and flies them first class when she deems necessary.
She owns a yacht in Capri and has been reportedly been known to spend $10,000 a day on hair and makeup.
It doesn't look like we'll ever get a straight behind the split, but we do know that both parties really, really care what people think.
