Kylie Minogue has come face to face with a festive waxwork of herself.

The 5ft (1.5m) pop star looked delighted and said "Oh my god" as she met her replica at Madame Tussauds.

The 47-year-old, who was wearing a velvet red dress with a diamante-encrusted black bow, pretended to pause for a selfie with the waxwork of George Clooney next to her figure.

She said: "Wait a second, I need to have a look at her. Can I touch her?"

As she posed for photos, she asked reporters: "Is it weird seeing this?"

After the photoshoot, she said: "I think she looks good. I have been in this site before and it was cool. Seeing her face to face with this outfit is great. It is a big honour they have done so many versions of me."

The revamped wax figure has been dressed in a copy of the red chiffon dress, shiny stilletos and vintage headdress the Australian singer wore for the cover of her new album Kylie Christmas.

The figure, which is the fourth to go on display at the tourist attraction in central London, has been restyled to sit on a stack of sparkly presents adorned with candy canes in front of a Christmas tree as part of a seasonal display.

The first figure of the former Neighbours star went on display in 1989 before a replacement was made in 1998 and a third in 2002.

The current figure was made in 2007 and this is the first time Kylie has seen it after last visiting her second waxwork in 1998.

Edward Fuller, general manager of Madame Tussauds London, said: "She is one of the most popular personalities here and has been since we introduced her first figure - which is a testament to her prolific career and extraordinary personality.

"I can't think of anyone better to be our shining Christmas star than Kylie and we know our guests will appreciate the opportunity to capture a unique seasonal moment with her."

The video for her single Every Day's Like Christmas features her new partner, British actor Joshua Sasse, 27, who in a recent magazine interview Kylie revealed she would be spending Christmas with at an undisclosed European location.

The Australian singer will feature in the pre-recorded Royal Variety Performance on ITV tonight. She is also due to perform at her first ever headline performance at the Royal Albert Hall on Friday and will feature on BBC Radio 4's Desert Island Discs on Sunday.
