According to reports, sisters Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian are searching for a mansion to rent for the summer.

The pair, who are said to be filming their show 'Kourtney and Khloe take the Hamptons', also want to find a store to expand their chain of boutiques.

But this is proving too much for the residents of the resort more associated with old money and corporate wealth.

The prospect of the sisters, their entourage and the army of paparazzi who follow their every move, has filled the locals in the millionaires' playground with dread.

Mark Epley, the mayor of Southampton village – one possible location for the Kardashians' summer sojourn – said: "I just hear rumours like everyone else and . . . we have had some reaction from some residents.

"The village is a fairly quiet one, and I think there is some concern."

As yet no filming applications have been filed, Mr Epley added.

"They would have to follow all the guidelines.

"The issue for us has always been safety and quality of life."

Filming is not allowed on the beaches, according to the Southampton village website.

The 'New York Post' says there is hostility to their arrival and the reaction on social media has been equally unenthusiastic.

Resident Jackie Meares tweeted: "Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian are taking the Hamptons – correction: they are taking the class out of Long Island." (© Daily Telegraph, London)
