Khloe Kardashian has revealed that husband Lamar Odom does not know why he was hospitalised and is learning to speak, and feed himself again.

The former NBA player went into a coma and almost died following a drink and drugs binge which saw him collapse at a Nevada brothel in October.

Reality star Khloe (31) has been a constant by his bedside, but speaking to Ellen in a show airing on Monday she revealed he still faces a long road to recovery.

"He is off all the machines that help his organs but he has such a long way to go," she told the US talk show host.

"He's learning how to walk again and feed himself again and put sentences together. Cognitively there is a lot...it's along long road ahead.

"He couldn't  put a words together today. But he understands."

Khloe also revealed that Lamar has not asked why he is in hospital and she has not told him he suffered a brain injury because it would "set him back".

"He's really confused a lot we have to remind him. Every day is different," she added.

"Sometimes he knows who the president is, and his birthday, and other times he thinks he's 26, and I say: "I bet you wish you were 26, so do I."'

Khloe appeared on Elllen to promote her new book Strong Looks Better Naked, something about which she said she felt "awkward" given the situation with Lamar.

Ellen asked Khloe about how she feels about the fact she was divorcing Lamar when he ended up in hospital and she said she just feels like "it's a really insensitive thing to fast forward a divorce".

She added, "I love him and I always will and he’s a fantastic person who deserves support and love and for someone to be by his side, and for me, I’m that to him."

She revealed her current boyfriend James Harden, who she has been dating since July, is "fine" with the situation.

Ellen joked that Khloe is a polygamist.
