Katie Piper wants to adopt a child with burns as she 'can't conceive naturally' again
Acid attack victim Katie Piper has revealed plans to adopt a child with burns, as she opens up about her debilitating injuries.
Former model Katie was just 24 years old in 2008 when her ex-boyfriend arranged for acid to be thrown over her, forever altering the course of her life.
The man in question, Danny Lynch, is serving a life sentence for his actions, while brave Katie used her experiences to help other victims.
The tv presenter spoke to The Mirror about how the vicious attack continues to affect her life despite over 40 surgeries and operations.
"I’ve got a problem with my oesophagus," the 31-year-old said.
“If I eat anything it gets stuck and I choke, because when acid was thrown over me I swallowed some of it and it burned my throat.
“So I’ve been to the doctor and he has given me these vitamin shakes, which replace proper food. I take them every day."
As a result, the petite mum-of-one is unable to gain enough weight to conceive again.
“I got pregnant really easily with Belle , but now...there aren’t enough vitamins to help me make a baby. That is why I have become so skinny. I think adopting is the best option.”
“I’m really thinking about adopting a child from the charity that I work with," she added.
“There are a lot of kids with burns and parents who have neglected them, and I would like to adopt, to give back a little.”
Katie, who is mum to Belle (1) is happily engaged to James Sutton, whom she credits with boosting her confidence.
“I’ve had a skin graft from my bottom and put inside both my nostrils. That’s why I’ve got these tubes in my nose. I may have to wear them for a long time, but my boyfriend says not to worry."
“He loves me the way I am, which is amazing. I had kind of given up on dating and I had resigned myself to being on my own and adopting, but then I met him.
“It’s more important to be able to breathe than what I look like, and I can actually breathe now.”
