RTE star Kathryn Thomas says she is “more open” to marriage and possibly children with her restaurateur partner Padraig McLoughlin.

Kathryn (37), who hosts The Voice of Ireland and Operation Transformation, told this month’s edition of VIP Magazine that she is finally in the right head space to think about starting a family.

Padraig, who is father to son Conor from a previous relationship, is “not against the idea” of starting a family with her, she said.

“Padraig has an 18-year-old son Conor who is amazing and they get on so well and are so alike. Does he want more? He’s not against the idea at all.”

She described the businessman as “my forever”, before adding: “It comes down to timing, and the right partner.

“For me, everything is in place now and I am getting more broody, certainly than I was anyway. At 37, as my mum and my friends would say, ‘you need a kick in the rear end!’”

While Kathryn said she would like to have a family, she admitted that focusing on her career has been her priority in recent years.

“If we’re lucky enough (to have a family), then yes. But again it’s the age-old thing of being a successful woman, having a drive and focusing on your career.”

The presenter said she believes women can have both and has “no regrets” about being so ambitious.

“A lot of my friends thought that settling down was never meant to be for me, but I feel I am very settled now,” she said.

“I have the utmost respect for people who choose to stay single, but I am not that person. I love being in a relationship, because I think it’s a lovely honour to bring the best out in someone and to share your life with someone who is your best friend.”

Kathryn also said that she is “more open” to marriage after meeting her other half, who runs two restaurants – Catch 22 and Union 8 – in Dublin.

“I never had the vision of the white dress, and it’s not something that I ever felt would make a huge difference to me,” she added.

“But I think from a legal perspective, it makes sense if you want to have a family.”

The blonde host said her relationship with Padraig “just feels easy”.

“In the past, maybe I felt that it was my personality that was stopping me from settling, but looking back on it now, it was just the wrong time and I wasn’t in the right headspace.”
