Justin Theroux finally breaks his silence on Jennifer Aniston being dragged into Brangelina divorce
Justin Theroux has finally broken his silence about his wife Jennifer Aniston being dragged into Brangelina's divorce.
Aniston was married to Brad Pitt (51) for five years before they split in 2005 and he went public with his relationship with former co-star Angelina Jolie (41) that year.
The Friends star (47) is now happily married to Theroux (45), whom she wed in 2015, and the normally press-shy took the classy comment route when he was asked about the couple's shock split.
"As a child of divorce all I can say is that’s terrible news for those children and that's all you can really say," he told Business Insider.
"It’s boring to sort of comment on anything else. People are having a bad time, that's horrible.”
As for his wife's inclusion in the headlines, including a false rumour that they too were on the brink of a split, he didn't pull any punches.
"There’s an endless appetite for trash, apparently, though everyone would say that they don’t have that appetite," he said.
"But I think a lot of people do because people buy it. But there are bigger things to bitch about. It’s shocking how much bandwidth things can take up when there are far more important things going on in the world."
His comment echo Aniston's powerful essay she wrote for the Huffington Post earlier this year, criticising celebrity culture and in particular, the tabloid media's fixation on her, her ex-husband and the fact that she doesn't have any children.
“I don’t like to give energy to the business of lies," she wrote, "but I wanted to participate in a larger conversation that has already begun and needs to continue...For the record, I am not pregnant. What I am is fed up. I’m fed up with the sport-like scrutiny and body shaming that occurs daily under the guise of “journalism,’ the ‘First Amendment,’ and ‘celebrity news.’”
