Vanessa Paradis has reportedly defended Johnny Depp in a letter calling the allegations of domestic violence "outrageous".

The Pirates of the Caribbean actor's wife of 15-months, actress Amber Heard, filed for divorce on Thursday, and a day later she requested a domestic violence restraining order against the 52-year-old.

A photo of the 30-year-old sporting what appears to be a bruise on her right eye was submitted as evidence along with her request, after she claimed Johnny threw his iPhone at her on Sunday during a row.

Following Amber's claims, representatives for Johnny said in a statement: "Amber is attempting to secure a premature financial resolution by alleging abuse."

Now, Johnny's former partner Vanessa, who was with the actor for 14 years, has reportedly strongly refuted Amber's abuse allegations. A letter alleged to be from the French singer and actress who shares children Lily-Rose, 17, and Jack, 14, with Johnny, obtained by TMZ.com, said the claims made against him were outrageous.

"To whom it may concern," Vanessa, who was with the actor from 1998 to 2012, writes. "Johnny Depp is the father of my two children, he is a sensitive, loving and loved person, and I believe with all my heart that these recent allegations being made are outrageous.

"In all the years I have known Johnny, he has never been physically abusive with me and this looks nothing like the man I lived with for 14 wonderful years. Sincerely, Vanessa Paradis."

Her comments echo those of Johnny's first wife, Lori Anne Allison, who leapt to the actor's defence on Saturday. Lori Anne, who married the actor in 1983, said he was never physical with her and never even screamed or shouted.

She told friends that the star, who she split from in 1985, isn't capable of hitting women, and doesn't believe Amber's claims she was abused, TMZ.com reports.

Lori Anne added Johnny is a "soft person", who loves his pets like he would love a child. The former couple are thought to have spoken recently following the death of Johnny's mother, 81-year-old Betty Sue Palmer, following a long illness.
