Brown Bag Studios is best known for making the likes of Doc McStuffins, Henry Hugglemonster and Peter Rabbit, watched by millions of children worldwide.

Its takeover by 9 Story Media Group, one of North America's largest animation studios, will see an expansion of its operation in the Irish capital, the company said.

The animators, who will keep their Brown Bag brand, said they will take on 50 new staff in Dublin in a variety of roles over the next six to 12 months.

Darragh O'Connell, co-founder and creative director, said: "We are exceptionally proud of what we have built as an Irish company but for the next part of our journey it makes total sense for us to join forces with 9 Story."

He added: "This deal allows us to concentrate on what we have always done very well - making great shows for kids."

Brown Bag already employs 160 people in Dublin, and has offices in Los Angeles and Manchester.

It has received Academy Award nominations for animations Give Up Yer Aul Sins, Granny O'Grimm's and Sleeping Beauty, while scooping four Emmy awards for Peter Rabbit.

The company was founded in 1994 by Cathal Gaffney and Mr O'Connell.

Vince Commisso, chief executive of 9 Story Media Group, said the studio was "absolutely thrilled to be joining forces" with Brown Bag.

"Cathal, Darragh and their team in Ireland have a well established track record and an outstanding reputation for producing high quality animation," he said.
