RTE star Kathryn Thomas said she's used to being asked about a Christmas engagement because she's been asked "for the last 10 years".

The Operation Transformation host (36) has been dating restaurateur Padraig McLaughlin for two years and had previously been in a long-term romance with garda Enda Waters, before calling time in their relationship in 2012.

And as Christmas proposals are aplenty around her, the popular presenter said she expects the question to be asked by friends, family and media.

"I think because I've been asked for the last 10 years, I'm sort of use to it now," she said.

"It's the time of the year, I suppose. I get the engaged question and I get the 'do you like Brussels sprouts?' question."

Thomas is gearing up to host RTE's New Year's Eve proceedings at the 3Arena in Dublin, alongside Breakfast Republic's Keith Walsh, where The Coronas and Fatboy Slim will be ringing in 2016.

"We're coming from the 3Arena this year, so it'll be dry and warm and The Coronas will always pull in a crowd.

"I'm a Fatboy Slim fan and I have a bit of a girl crush on Zoe Ball so I hope she comes over too.

"My mates are all coming along on the night like they did last year.

"It's kind of an excuse now - nobody has to figure out what they're doing on New Year's Eve, they just come along to the gig."
