Mairead Ronan (nee Farrell) said it was always her intention to become Mrs Louis Ronan.
The Today FM star (35) wed her partner Louis Ronan in a glamorous ceremony in Tipperary in June and changed her surname the day after their nuptials.
Some were critical of her decision, but Mairead stands by it.
"I wanted to change my name. It was a big deal for me," she said.
"I know some people were giving out that I did, but it's none of their business," she added.
However it sounds like Mairead's other half is still getting used to her new surname.
"Louis didn't care but he still calls me Mairead Farrell, but I wanted to do it. It's great now that women have a choice - if they want to change their name they can, and if they don't want to they don't have to."
While they had a wonderful day, Mairead says she's "so happy it's done and all over."
"Louis took the hit on most of it, he was brilliant in taking the front seat during preparations," she told the Diary.
They're only married a few months but mum-of-one Mairead said they're already being asked "the baby question".
"We're only back from our honeymoon but I've a lovely boss in Today FM who is hilarious and asked if I was pregnant as soon as I came back to work," she laughed.
