'It was all on Alex's terms' - Nicola Hughes on regaining her 'freedom' since leaving Made in Chelsea
Nicola Hughes has said that it is 'nice' to have her 'freedom' back since leaving Made in Chelsea as her time on the show was on ex-boyfriend Alex Mytton's terms.
The Irish model featured on the reality show with Mytton since 2015, but the pair shockingly split over the summer with Mytton ending the relationship by text message.
However, the former pageant queen said that not going on the show to speak about the breakup was her choice and that she is happy to have her freedom back since leaving the show.
"It’s nice to have my freedom back," she said while promoting the launch of the InStyler Straight Up Straightening Brush.
"You don’t really have much of a life, you’re theirs. It’s nice to have a break from it."
The Sandyford native revealed that she chose not to fly to France to film the breakup while the show was recording, and that it was the first time a decision was on her terms.
"I didn’t want to fly to France and film the breakup. I didn’t see the point."
"I joined that show more or less for Alex. Obviously it was an amazing opportunity and I’m so happy I did it but it was all on his terms and for the first time, it was my terms," said the 26-year-old, who is currently based in London.
"They asked me to fly out there and film in London as well but why would I want to do that? Why would I want to talk about a really horrible time for me?"
Nicola confirmed that she won't be returning to the show since splitting from Alex, unless it is on her terms.
"I would only ever return if it was on my terms and I don’t think that would be the case. He has the priority," she said.
Nicola has returned to the dating scene since the breakup, but said she isn't seeing Cheryl's ex-husband, Jean Bernard Fernandez Versini, following the pair being photographed together in June.
"I’m not dating him or anything of the sort. We met randomly and we’ve talked since. He's not really my type."
"I don’t think I’d date anyone anytime soon in the public eye. I kind of want to take a break from all that drama and everyone knowing your business."
She denied that her time on the hit show left a bad taste in her mouth, but admitted that her relationship with Alex has.
"It’s my ex that’s left a nasty taste in my mouth. We’re fine and when we see each other we’re civil to each other, but we’re not exactly friends."
As for the future, Nicola is currently focusing on presenting work and establishing a clothing range, although she wouldn't rule out more reality tv appearances.
"I'd do the jungle, yeah," she said. "I'd love to do a dancing show!"
