They first crossed paths during the Rose of Tralee festival seven years ago, but Daithi O Se's wife Rita has revealed that the couple found love after the presenter 'poked' her on Facebook.

The former New Jersey Rose admitted the pair fell for each other after spending months messaging on the social media site following her return to the US after the 2008 festival.

"After the Rose of Tralee, Facebook is how we connected a few months later," Rita told the Herald. "It started with a poke on Facebook. I think I kept popping up on the side of his page where it says suggested friends and we started messaging before we became friends."

The American beauty, who has been married to the Today Show host since 2012, said she used to get excited whenever she received a message from the Kerryman.

"With the time difference, I was always excited to wake up to a message from him," she said.

"Eventually we started meeting up when Daithi was working over in the States and that's how it happened really.

"It took a while, but we really got to know each other and it's kind of special how it happened. It was almost like being pen pals."

The loved-up pair became parents for the first time last year when they welcomed baby Micheal Og on St Patrick's Day.

"Never did we think seven years ago that we'd be sitting here together, married with a baby," said Rita.
