The former Made in Chelsea star (26) and rapper (32), whose real name is Stephen Manderson, released a statement about their relationship.

“It is with sadness and regret that we confirm our separation," they said in the statement released to The Mirror.

"It is a mutual decision, we still care deeply about each other and would like it to be known that it is on amicable terms and we wish each other well.”

The couple is now living apart but have not yet filed for divorce.

Professor Green had pursued Millie in 2011 after seeing her on the cover of FHM and although she was starring Made in Chelsea at the time they met, they kept their relationship private.

They married in Babington House in Somerset in 2013 and in January this year they flew to Italy for a romantic holiday, posting snaps of their trip in which they looked completely loved up.

However, Professor Green had revealed to The Sun that he had only seen his wife once in a year.

"We had seen each other like ships in the night, but we weren’t getting any quality time together. It is good sometimes to have space, but it is also difficult when you miss someone for that long," he said.

"It used to happen when I was touring. You would have a day off and try and have the best day of your life. But then you’d just start arguing. That is a relationship.

"The best way is a balance and being really clever with the time you do have together and making the most of that."

In September last year he said he was seeking therapy to stop himself blaming Mackintosh for their relationship problems.

"I don't rely on her to solve my problems, that's not her duty," he told the Press Association.

"It would be really unfair to put that burden on her, it would almost be shirking my own responsibilities. That would make for a bad relationship and then it would become a blame game.

"It's up to me to go and talk to someone who understands properly the science behind depression and how the mind works to help me with those problems."

He said they had survived a very testing first year of marriage which saw him involved in a car accident, mugged, and banned for drink-driving.

"I went through a difficult period with the accident and court case and she couldn't do anything about all that. It was very hard for a first year of marriage. It's made us stronger together," he said.

Millie is currently doing the front row rounds at London Fashion Week and was spotted wearing her wedding ring on Saturday.
